Blossom Fund
The Blossom Fund was established by the Sustainer Group of the Junior League of Philadelphia to use profits from its Bed, Breakfast, Blossoms & Barnes event to assist the greater Philadelphia community. The objective of the Blossom Fund is to provide gifts or grants in areas, not limited to but including (in no particular order), horticultural projects, areas related to the Junior League’s position statements, current area of interest or legacy projects, current or past Sustainer projects and interests, historic preservation projects as a form of community improvement, scholarships in community service, and the interests of women. The Blossom Fund will not provide funds for an organization’s budgeted operating expenses. These gifts or grants should make a lasting and permanent impact on the community and visible impact for the Junior League of Philadelphia. Tax exempt orgaizations interested in applying for a Blossom Fund grant should download the Guidlines and Application.

Paul Fly School Reading Program
A very special thank you to the following who contributed to the Paul Fly School Magazine Subscription Fund enabling each teacher a one-year subscription of his/her choice:
Anonymous, Jane Acton, Lavon Arms, Marge Devlin--to mark a special birthday, Bev Galloway, Sally Hillyer, Christine Rother, Alice Lea Tasman
For all who want to help this school’s reading program you may make a donation in any amount by sending a check to Sally Young. Also, as Marge Devlin did, you may want to remember special occasions with a gift to the future. A donation for a children’s magazine subscription would make a wonderful gift honoring that special person ‘who has everything.’

donations to the JLP, all fourth grade classrooms at the Paul Fly
School have smart boards. Over the summer, the remaining two
classrooms were outfitted with smart boards. Now all five
fourth grade classrooms and their teachers will benefit with the
use of this great teaching tool. I do not know who is more
excited - the teachers or the students! The thank you notes have
flooded in to the JLP this summer from both.
Enrollment continues to climb at this school. Many of the
classrooms have almost 30 children with one teacher. Teaching to
so many different student levels is difficult. It is also exhausting
to keep everyone’s attention. However, the children love the
smart boards! All eyes are on the board when in use. Also, it has
allowed for new teacher innovation with curriculum material. The
kids are attentive and engaged.
As our project comes to an end with this being our final year, we
would like to ensure all third grade classrooms are similarly outfitted
with smart boards next September. Presently two of the
five third grade classrooms have boards. So our main goal this
year is to secure donations for the remaining three rooms. Smart
boards cost $4000 each. Personal, community, and foundation
help is necessary. However, we will also continue to collect
books, donate clothing with shoe vouchers, and find educational
magazine donors.
It has been a most wonderfully gratifying project for us. The
teachers and staff have never had an outside group help them
like this. They have expressed wonderment about both the
Junior League and the Huston Foundation. At a time when all
school budgets are under great economic pressure, we have
proven again the power of the volunteer!
